Possible Itineraries:
The routes described here are mostly departing from Germany, but might be useful for other travellers as well.
Direct flights to St Petersburg tend to be very expensive. But meanwhile, various ways of combining budget flights, ferry, bus and train offer inexpensive alternatives.
PLEASE NOTE: All prices listed here date of October 2005.
Plane:
Still cheaper than Lufthansa for example are direct flights by Pulkovo (from Hamburg or Frankfurt, for example). For many years it has proven to be especially low-priced during the month of February to fly Pulkovo. Tickets starting at 220 Euro are possible! (Figure from 30.01.05)

Also from April 2006, Germanwings will offer direct flights from Cologne to St. Petersburg for very attractive prices, in particular for those who book early. Online booking is possible.

Lufthansa also offers a very attractive "Lastminute" rate option. This way you can order a ticket per direct debiting system via http://www.ltour.de/ for 315 Euro all inclusive. The ticket needs to be picked up 2 hours prior to departure at the LTour counter. Last Minute in this case means 3 days before departure.Â
Ferry:
Since June 2004 there is a direct ferry circuit from Rostock, Germany via Tallinn to St. Petersburg.
While the ferry is relatively expensive during the summer months of June, July, and August, from September on it offers an inexpensive and comfortable alternative to flying directly. Furthermore, there is no baggage limitation and a 10 % student discount.
